Oct 13 -- POSTPONEMENT

As many know, I ruptured a disk in August and missed six weeks of work. While I am making a solid recovery, I will not be able to get to Austin Nov 6-7. I apologize for the inconvenience. A new date will be scheduled when the Spring 2011 tour is planned. If you would like to get the announcement of the new date, please subscribe to the newsletter on Speedliting.com.

SPEEDLITER'S INTENSIVE™ – Canon Speedlites Demystified & Untangled

Canon flash photography need not be confusing or frustrating. Nor does it have to look bad. The keys to shooting great images with flash are: (1) know what your Speedlite can and cannot do for you and (2) get your flash off the top of your camera as quickly as you can. Even if you have just one Speedlite, you can create beautiful images without a load of extra gear. Attend one or both sessions - depending upon your skill level and how much you want to learn.

SPEEDLITING FUNDAMENTALS - Saturday,

Suitable for Novice to Intermediate shooters: No prior experience with Speedlites is necessary. This session will talk about and demonstrate the use of a single Speedlite only. Techniques for multiple Speedlites are covered in the Advanced Speedliting session. You are encouraged to bring a DSLR and Speedlite so that you can follow along with the demonstrations on how and when to push the buttons and turn the dials.

Fundamental Topics Include:

  • How You See vs. How Your Camera Sees
  • Camera Exposure Modes: P, Av, Tv, Manual
  • Speedlite Exposure Modes: E-TTL and Manual

If you are a novice who wishes to jump in with both feet, then you may attend this session if you also attend Speedliting Fundamentals. This session focuses on multiple Speedlite techniques. You are encouraged to bring a DSLR and Speedlite so that you can follow along with the demonstrations on how and when to push the buttons and turn the dials.

Syl Arena is author of the bestselling Speedliter's Handbook -- which has done more to demystify the inner-workings of Canon flash photography than any other publication. As a testament to the Handbook's success, it is now being translated into eight languages.

Syl's blog, Speedliting.com, is ground-zero for information on the how-to and why-to of Canon flash.

Fortunately, for those who like hands-on learning, Syl teaches seminars and workshops on Speedliting around the globe.
